Palaeoentomology
The section Paleoentomology manages and curates the collection of fossil invertebrates, mostly fossil Insects, from the Messel pit fossil site. Due to excavations in the Messel pit, each year new finds get integrated into the collection.
Together with scientists from the whole world research questions concerning the biodiversity, paleoecology and evolution of insects are addressed.
Both the section and the collection are located in the Senckenberg Research station Grube Messel at Messel. Here also the preparation of new finds takes place.
